Vitiligo treatment focuses on bringing back the skin's natural colour. While treatment can often alleviate symptoms, it rarely stops the disease from spreading. When topical treatments, such as steroids, have failed or when there are extensive patches of Vitiligo, phototherapy, a form of light therapy, can be used to reduce the appearance of the depigmented skin. The combination of ultraviolet (UV) A light and the medication Psoralen (applied topically or taken orally) is used in a treatment called PUVA (Psoralen and ultraviolet/UV A light therapy) to restore normal skin pigmentation.
AKJ Skin and Laser Centre offers treatment for Vitiligo under the guidance of Drs. Selvam and Nirmala who are veterans of the industry and trailblazers in the spread of laser therapy across Southern India. Throughout his career, Dr Selvam has cared for more than 150 patients from all over India, including the country's north and east.
At your scheduled consultation at AKJ Skin and Laser Centre Clinic, a consultant will review the problem areas and hear about any previous treatments you've tried. The severity of your condition, the extent to which it has spread, and the treatments you have already tried will all play a role in determining the course of action they recommend.
The best treatment for your Vitiligo depends on your natural skin tone and type. In addition, we will think about how you want to feel and how your condition currently affects your life. Medication and light-based therapies can help restore skin colour and even skin tone, but the results are variable and hard to predict.
Vitiligo is one of the many skin conditions we can treat with narrow-band UVB therapy. In phototherapy, the affected areas are subjected to ultraviolet light to facilitate healing during the treatment of Vitiligo with narrow-band UVB light (phototherapy). Depending on the patient's skin type and the spread of Vitiligo, phototherapy can be performed anywhere from once a week to three times a week. Light therapy is currently the gold standard when treating Vitiligo, which affects more than 20% of the body. This method works best on the face, the body, and the limbs.
We want you to be confident of whatever choice you make. It's fine and often recommended that you take some time to mull over your treatment options after your initial consultation with us before scheduling any actual procedures. If you have any other concerns or questions, contact us now.
