In addition to improving the appearance and function of the skin, laser scar revision is an effective treatment option for a wide variety of scar types. Regarding laser scar treatments, nobody does it better than AKJ Skin and Laser Centre Clinics, thanks to their expert doctors who focus solely on scar revision. Drs Selvam and Nirmala, who have over 20 years of experience in the field, skillfully lead the team.
AKJ Skin and Laser Centre is home to cutting-edge, high-powered laser technologies. For Hypertrophic / Keloid scars, doctors use Fraxel (Reliant technologies, U.S.A.) - Fractional CO2 laser and the Genesis (Cutera Vantase) - Long pulsed Nd YAG 1064nm laser.
Your surgeon will decide on a course of treatment following the initial consultation. More extensive keloids respond well to pulsed-dye laser treatments. This treatment has also successfully reduced itching and the appearance of keloids. Treatment with a pulsed-dye laser typically entails multiple visits spaced out by four to eight weeks. Your physician may advise you to get cortisone injections in addition to laser therapy.
In 35 patients, we used PDL to treat a portion of one scar, while FCO2L was used to treat the other scar. Power = 30 W, Pulse Energy = 50 mJ, and Spot Density = 200 spots/cm2 were the settings for FCO2L. For 585 nm PDL, the parameters used were 9 J/cm2 with a 5 mm spot size. Three treatments were performed on the FCO2L side to for 3 passes to reduce the size of the scar. Two passes were layered on top of each other and applied to the PDL side. Before continuing, our experts completely removed the coagulated tissue.
For four months, our doctors performed the procedures once a month. After this treatment, you'll only need to take mild precautions for about a week, and your skin should be back to normal (though it may be slightly red at first).
Your surgeon will tailor a specific surgical approach and course of treatment to your unique needs. What to anticipate from your first appointment?
Following your surgeon's orders will help you heal faster and progress toward your new look. You must show up for all your scheduled follow-up appointments so your surgeon can evaluate your progress and address any concerns you may have.
A hypertrophic scar can be recognised by its telltale symptoms. Examples of these are:
Keloid scars are not harmful, but they can be painful and itchy. However, these scars can have an even more significant psychological effect, especially on younger patients, by causing intense emotional suffering and a dramatic loss of self-esteem. There is zero danger of cancer from keloids.
It's best if this happens as soon as possible. Scars are best treated as quickly as possible after the wound begins to heal.
Hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation, blistering, and crusting are all potential side effects, especially for people with darker skin. Since the CO2 laser device creates microscopic holes in the skin's surface, the days following treatment are marked by intense swelling, redness, and the occasional oozing of serum from the treated skin.
